10 WONDERFUL THINGS TO MAKE, DO AND CELEBRATE IN FEBRUARY!

Welcome to my February Sunday Supplement. The darkest days of winter are now behind us, and the first crocuses are sprouting in the ground. Spring is but a hair's breadth away! In December we had about 8 hours of daylight. In February this will stretch to 9 hours. Have you noticed? 4pm is so much lighter than it was a month ago. Taking some time to reflect on that feels pretty special. I have been planning my spring workshops and am super excited to announce that i’m running a Spring Wreath workshop on Sat 21st March (the day after the spring equinox and the day before Mothers day!) . I'll be teaching my popular woven base wreath and we'll be adorning it with fresh and dried foliage and flowers. These workshops sold out quite quickly last year so grab your spot here.

If you steer clear of the Valentines tat February can be lovely month. I've come to quite enjoy this month of love, especially when you expand your definition of love to your friends, children and the earth. It’s also the month of pancakes, Galantines day, and Imbolc too!

Here are 10 wonderful things to make, do and celebrate this month!

1) EAT ALL THE PANCAKES!

Tuesday February 25th is Shrove Tuesday, a festival that celebrates the feasting before lent, traditionally marked by eating pancakes (in the UK we mean the thin crepe like ones). It is basically the best celebration of the year and I am planning on eating them allllllllllllll month.

2) Celebrate your female friendships on Galentines Day!

Galentines is on the 13th February and is a day to gather your female friends and family members and celebrate them! This year I am hosting a workshop at The Wing with Im Ohne in London (if you are a member, look out for the workshop!) where guests will be making a posy of flowers for themselves and a friend. Very excited about that!

3) Hunt for the first Spring flowers.

Snowdrops and crocuses will start appearing this month; the first tender signs of Spring. Wrap up warm and go hunting for them.

4) Cook a simple meal for your love on Valentines Day.

Bypass the supermarket card shelves and petrol station roses and cook for each other instead. Lots of ideas over here

5) Go Moon gazing.

The next full moon is on Sunday 9th Feb. Moon gazing is a lovely thing to do with children at this time of year (in the warmer months they’re usually asleep!)

6) Date yourself.

Take time to nourish yourself, and re-discover what you love. A mornings reading? A gig? Afternoon tea for 1? A film? Or spend some time seducing…yourself. Pleasing yourself is not a couples only activity. Tips here. Oooh errr!

7) Give your friends a Valentines gift.

Because why not. Make little posies of local Spring flowers, or gift them a little pot of bulbs, or make them some heart shaped shortbreads. This is a lovely thing to do with children too.

8) Light the candles on the still-dark mornings and evenings.

Today is Candlemas, and Imbolc was on Monday. Candlemas is otherwise known as the festival of lights. It's been held this month since pre-Christian times to celebrate the virgin earth of spring. Imbolc marks the exact day between the winter solstice and the spring equinox (we’re over half way to spring now!) Both celebrations are traditionally celebrated with candles. As if we needed more excuses to light the candles eh?

9) Plan your half term adventures.

School half term happens this month. We're going away for a week to Cornwall, and I can't wait! could you book a last minute getaway or house awap maybe? The National Trust have some lovely things happening all over the country- mostly with an outdoorsy vibe, often in the grounds of one of their wonderful properties.

10) Do some planning for the year

Similarly to previous years, we are still going through our January Life Book process and will be finishing it off this month. Students on my e-course are currently finishing theirs off too. I’m not running the course live again this year but I have created a self paced version of the e-course over here if you’re ready to review 2019 and set some gentle, kind goals for 2020. If you haven't had time to think about goals yet, February could be a nice month to give it a go.
