OUR SIMPLE BUDGET FRIENDLY MONTESSORI INSPIRED KIDS ROOM

I have been promising to share more information about my kid’s bedroom for months, and here it is!

The brief: I wanted to create a shared kids bedroom that was cosy, fun, yet simple and very budget-friendly. I kept the walls white and added colour and texture in the bedding, art and shelves. Both of them love their bedroom and I love it too, it feels like a really calming space.

The original plan was to swap ALL of the bedrooms around so that they had the biggest room. But then we realised with bunk beds, their current room would be just fine. A bigger room would mean more mess! They play downstairs so it would have been wasted. Their small room feels really cosy and lovely. It meant so much less work, and also means I have a bigger room to use as a studio which is a dream. In the future, we will probably move the rooms around so that they have a room each but for now it works really well.

10 WONDERFUL THINGS TO MAKE, DO AND CELEBRATE IN NOVEMBER

Happy November!

Autumn in the UK is something pretty darn special. Golden carpets of leaves, bright and chilly, damp and foggy, fierce gusting wind, rainbows and the first frosts, and all against the backdrop of the beautifully changing trees. It’s my spiritual season and i am loving it. November has also been fraught with sickness in our home and we have been canceling things left right and centre to try to make time for us to get well. I have decided to name November a month for nourishment: #NourishinNovember (join in if you wanna!) I am also increasingly aware of the ways I need to look after my mental health more too. A month for movement, nourishment and rest is needed!

I love celebrating November as it has some of my favourite celebrations. Sometimes November is reduced to “nearly December” but let’s not wish this magical month away, hey?! Autumn leaves, first frosts, Bonfires, fireworks, and still being a part of the EU 😜 .

10 SURPRISING THINGS THAT HAPPENED WHEN I DECLUTTERED MY HOUSE

Spring is most definitely Springing, hurrah! I’ve been pottering around the garden most days and it is HAPPENING out there (!)

We recently got a new bed for the kids (A Gunmtree freebie- very pleased with ourselves) and it has led to a mega decluttering sesh. The new bed meant we lost the underbed storage space. Finding space for the things that were under the bed necessitated a clear out of the upstairs closet to make space for things under bed- which spilled out into sorting through the stuff under our bed and other areas upstairs etc etc you know how it goes. Chaos. We ended up donating boxes upon bags of baby clothes and kids books and other things I wasn’t using. There is now space for everything in the built in storage (which is ridiculously satisfying)

Ad: A simple garden afternoon tea with Hobbycraft

t’s half term here and Frankie-Rose’s school bunches all of its inset days together so we get a second sneaky week off, and boy are we ready for it. Both kids are so tired! Auden has a permanent cold and Frankie-Rose really needs some quiet days after a busy term and SAT’s (ugh). Our plans are still materialising, but we are certainly planning to do some holidaying at home (actually one of my favourite things to do) and generally take it verrry easy.

We have been busy in our garden lately, half planting, half slug fighting, and are spending more and more time outside. I decided to throw a simple celebratory tea party for our family to celebrate the imminent end of term (YES), the gorgeous weather and just because I fancied it. I like getting the nice glasses and crockery out just for us, it elevates things and the kids love it too, they feel the specialness of it somehow. I worked with Hobbycraft in creating this post which is a bit of a dream for me. Hobbycraft was one of my favourite shops as a teenager (I know, I know I was so cool). I really remember my excitement at the prospect of a trip to the Bolton branch of Hobbycraft trip with my cousin and aunt. What can I say, I’m just a stationary-and-craft-shops kinda gal.

Ok, so the details!

SOME RECENT STYLING WORK, AND HOW YOU CAN WORK WITH ME THIS YEAR.

I was recently going through some old files and came across a load of work that I have never really shared, so in in a bid to find my blogging mojo again, I thought i’d share them here. I also realised I dont talk about my work on my blog very often at all, something I would like to change.

As well as being a blogger and Instagrammer, I’m an interior stylist and cover editorial, real homes, events and product styling. I work 1: 1 with people to offer help with their homes, businesses or retail spaces; things like space styling, press breakfasts, help with home styling, etc. My year has started with a great retail styling project in Whitstable called Grain & Hearth for example; I’ve loved sourcing and pulling together ideas and inspiration for a bakery and cafe space. Here is some more of my work.

House of Grey London; everything I love about interiors.

I visited House of Grey on a whim, last minute, as a plus one with my friend Abi. I’d missed the previous two years of design festivals due to pregnancy/babydom but I was craving some time alone, in the city, away from my house, so I went, despite my tiredness. I wasn’t sure what to expect and had no plans at all, but I met Abi at Finsbury park and we began our day at House of Grey, a location house curated by Louisa Grey. (Thank you again Abi! Not to self: make friends with kind people who are more organised than you and have great taste). What I experienced there will stay with me for a long time. This is far, far more than a beautiful space. In fact this embodies everything I believe about the power of interiors.

5 techniques to encourage a more thoughtful home.

I have been thinking recently a lot about the the importance of finding happiness and contentment in our every day, in the daily tasks and moments that make up, well, our whole lives. Wishing always for bigger, better or more (holidays, houses, partners, money, stuff, instagram engagement (!) etc etc) and comparison really are the thieves of joy. I believe deep in my guts that the magic happens (aka happiness!) when we can learn to ground ourselves in joyful little moments and things throughout the day.

How to plant Red Geranium window boxes of dreams!

I have spent an inordinate amount of time in my life, imagining my dream house. My list is really quite detailed, and I have loved asking my instagram followers for the things on their dream list. I appreciated all the comments that involved less obvious things like plants, window seats, books and sheds!

One of the things on my list was having tumbling red geraniums bursting out of my window boxes. I have just always loved them, I think since seeing them on holidays in France, Venice and Croatia when I was younger.

A multi-function studio space reveal with Flokk.

One of the things that swung our decision to move to this house was the potential to turn the biggest bedroom upstairs into a studio space. We had made peace with living in a small house and the discipline that went along with that and were happy in our little space. However when the opportunity came up to move to this house we jumped at it; mostly because of the potential studio space upstairs and room enough downstairs to host workshops. For the first few months, the studio was our dumping room, then it was hastily cleared (/things shoved in corners) to work in. Over the last 6 weeks we made the time to properly sort through it, and make it into the functional beautiful space we have been dreaming about.

My design brief (to myself!) was to create a functional yet beautiful space mixing warm vintage and sleek minimal. We kept the base colour pallet simple: Grey and White, with forest Green as the accent colour. I wanted to mix vintage furniture with contemporary White furniture, plants and art.
